Obituary for Robbie Williams Ashe

Robbie Lee Williams Ashe was born July 4, 1949 to the parents of Dr. Robert L. and Mrs. Ava L. Williams in Little Rock, Arkansas. Robbie was their first child and her birth brought them much happiness. Robbie accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior at an early age at the New Life Baptist Church (Little Rock, Arkansas) and most recently united with Bible Way Baptist Church (Saint Louis). She attended the Saint Louis Public & Saint Louis County Schools (Laclede, Walbridge & Maplewood Senior High respectively) but graduated from Lewis and Clark High School (Spokane, Washington). Robbie continued her education at Washington University (Saint Louis) & Philander Smith College (Little Rock, Arkansas). Robbie married and from that union had one child, Monica Ashe Marshall and three grand children Lauren, Donovan and Camilla all who remained the center of her joy. Robbie talked early as a child. She learned her ABCs and began reading books at the age of three. She was a straight "A" student in from elementary through high school and continued to excel academically in college. Her quest for excellence was evident in her vocabulary and long standing title in the family as the 'Scrabble' champion. Robbie was also known for her impeccable memory. She recalled life events as early as one year old. Robbie was the one among both family and friends that everyone contacted for recollection of songs, movies, authors of books, addresses and names. Robbie was a daughter, sister, loving mother and grandmother, aunt but she was also a phenomenal woman, and a master leather craftsperson. She was a remarkable gifted, talented, artist and entrepreneur. Robbie was in the leather business for over 25 years. She learned how to work with leather goods from a German Craftsman named Peter. Just as Robbie excelled in academics, she exemplified this same mastery with her leather goods and was considered to be a Master in custom designing leather. Robbie repaired and redesigned any leather object. She perfected her skills in leather custom designing whether it was working with calf or buffalo hide. Robbie could make anything from leather: purses, hats, suits, belts, wallets, skirts, and picture frames. She was an artist who truly used her God-given talents. Robbie was the oldest of eight children. She was always supportive of her siblings. Robbie was the leader of the family; going before her parents with many questions and seeking answers that she passed on to her siblings. She was a "take charge" child around the house. If she did not like the way one of her siblings was doing something, she would take over and say, "Get out of my way and let me do it." One day as God walked around His garden and needed another flower he heard Robbie saying, 'I can do it, let me do it Lord!' -"For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith." II Timothy 4:6-7 Robbie is survived by her loving parents, Dr. Robert L. and Mrs. Ava L. Williams, devoted daughter Monica Ashe Marshall and three grand children Lauren, Donovan and Camilla; seven siblings: Julius Williams (Maritza) Lawrence, Kansas, Y'vonne Williams-Johnson (Robert) Waco, Texas, Larry Williams (Linder) Saint Louis, Reva Williams Pratt (Tim) Saint Louis, Dorothy Williams Poole (Guy) Olney, MD, Dr. Robert A. Williams (Carol) Oakland, CA, and Michael Williams, Saint Louis; seventeen nieces and nephews, and 13 great nieces and nephews; her longtime friend Joseph Love (St. Louis) and a host of other relatives, friends, and many who met her once and became her friend for life. Robbie loved her family and we loved her. We will always hold the precious time and memories that God allowed us to have with our Robbie.
