Her beloved husband William Lee Travis, parents, and fourteen siblings preceded her in death. She was a member of Central Methodist Church in Marvell, Arkansas n her youth. Martha joined Union Memorial United Methodist Church in 1947 (67 years). She treasured her membership at Union and loved her church family. She was a member of the United Methodist Women—The Butler/ Abram Group and The Adult Bible Class. On September 18, 2011 she was a happy and proud inductee into the Ninety Plus Club. She was educated in Marvell and graduated from Eliza Miller High School in Helena, Arkansas—Class of 1938. Martha was a proud and loving mother of five children, Claudia, Marion, Fay, Lawrence, and Donald. She worked many years for the Heman & Kling families, the United State Postal Service (during Christmas Rush) and in 1985 she was blessed to retire from Forest Park Community College. Family was always important. She enjoyed family gatherings, saying things to make us laugh, sharing family history and lovingly saying how proud of us she was. Before and during her illness she loved to have family and friends come to visit. She had a love for cooking and certainly enjoyed good meals. Shopping was always a pleasure and most of all shopping for bargains at her favorite thrift stores. Martha entered into blessed rest on Friday morning August 1, 2014 at her home. She is greatly missed. She leaves to cherish her memory: her children, Claudia Fisher, Marion Holloway (James), Fay Smith (Harry), Lawrence Sylvester (Lourdes) and Donald Travis (Brenda); stepchildren, Patsy Beck and Robert Golliday; 14 grandchildren including a special one who assisted in her home care needs (countless times)/ beyond measures, Karen Powell; 30 great-grandchildren; cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
