Obituary for Lillie Williams

Visitation and Funeral Services for Mrs. Lillie Mae Williams will be on Saturday, August 7, 2010. Visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m. Funeral Service will start at 12:00 Noon. Visitation and Funeral Service will be held at Solomon Temple M.B. Church, 4859 St. Louis Avenue, St. Louis, MO. 63115 with Rev. Albert Manson,Jr.Officiating. Interment will be on Monday, August 9, 2010 at 11:30 a.m. in Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis, MO. Lillie Mae Williams was born August 30, 1930 in Sudan, Arkansas to the union of Manuel and Lottie O’Neal Washington. She was the youngest of five children. Her parents, one brother, and two sisters preceded her in death. At a very early age, Lillie moved to St. Louis, MO from Marianna, Arkansas. She was educated in Brickeys Elementary and Moten High School. She later continued her education with the encouragement of Ms. Fredericka Nash of Nash Funeral Home and graduated from SIU with a degree in Early Childhood Education. She taught and nourished many young pre-school children in East St. Louis School District 189 until she retired. Lillie met and joined in Holy Matrimony to Woodrow Williams and they along with one child (Stine) moved to East St. Louis, IL. They bought a home at 1309 Gaty Street. Lillie and Woodrow did not have biological children, but God blessed them seven children that they raised as their own; Ernestine, Teresa, Yvonne, Maurice, Ernest, Tracy and Randy . The homestead on Gaty Street was a place of love and memories for over forty (40) years. During the many years on Gaty, Lillie made lifelong friendships with Ms. Corny, Ms. Jones and Ms. Hill. Her husband Woodrow Williams preceded her death in 1990 after over 40 years of marriage. Her son Randy Ingram and grandson Barry Manson also preceded her in death. As the Williams family grew, so did the traditions and memories, one in particular is the special cakes Lillie made for each child and grandchild. Everyone looked forward to knowing that when their birthday came around, a “personal” cake was waiting for them. Lillie was a women of great faith. She accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior at a very early age. She united with Greater Liberty Church of God In Christ under the pastorate of Elder Eames and was a Mother of the church for thirty (30) years . God called Lillie Mae Williams from this earthly home to eternal rest on Friday, July 30, 2010, in Saint Louis, MO. She is leaves to cherish her memories; Six children, Ernestine, Teresa (Patrick) , St. Louis, MO, Yvonne, Minneapolis, MN, Maurice, New Orleans, LA., Ernest, Evansville, IN., Tracy, Indianapolis, IN., fifteen grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, five great -great grandchildren, one brother, Henry, Marianna, ARK., three long time friends, Ms. Mary, Ms. Jones and Ms. Hill, a host of other relatives and friends.
