Obituary for Joseph Williams Sr.

Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father's house are many mansions: If it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also. John 14:1-3 Services held for Joseph Edward Williams are as follows: Visitation: 9:00 to 10:45 a.m. with services starting at 11:00 a.m. at the St. Peter African Methodist Epicopal Church,4730 Margaretta Avenue (at Shreve Avenue) Saint Louis, Missouri 63115 Interment: Laurel Hill Cemetery 11am Joseph Edward Williams, Sr. was born on March 19, 1959 to Alice Williams and Joseph Moore in Saint Louis, Missouri. He was preceded in death by both parents and his brothers Walter “Hawk” Ramsey and John L. Ramsey. Joe was educated in the Saint Louis City Public School system and graduated from Central High School. During that time, he met and dated Rhonda Torrence. They had one son, Joseph Edward, Junior. Upon graduation, Joe served his country in the United States Army where he learned to drive tractor trailers and, subsequently, received an honorable discharge. He later worked at Georgia Pacific where he met Ingomar Williams, his “Bae”. They were married in 1983. To that union, Kevin Joseph and Jessica Alicia were born. Joe also raised, and loved as his own, his two stepsons, Lee Arthur Smith III and Brian Anthony Smith. Joe was a devoted husband and father who loved the Lord. He was a devout Christian and professed his love for God at a young age. He accepted his call to preach at Strangers Home Missionary Baptist Church under the Leadership of Reverend Charles Bell. He later followed his mother to Christ Love Divine Missionary Baptist Church where Reverend James Williba was his pastor. He was a faithful member and served as an associate minister. Joe loved his family. During his 29 year marriage to Ingomar, he was her constant companion and friend. Joe loved spending time with her, his children and grandchildren. He also loved his large extended family and enjoyed fellowshipping with them as often as possible. Joe worked as an over-the-road truck driver for more than 25 years. In many ways this was the perfect profession for Joe because it put him into contact with people across the country. By all accounts, Joe was truly a “people person” who never met a stranger. Throughout his life, Joe touched many people with his infectious smile, attentive ear, kind heart, jovial spirit and love for life and laughter. He lived life zealously. Joe transitioned to his heavenly home on August 30, 2012. Joe leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife, Ingomar Williams; four sons, Joseph Edward Williams, Jr. Kevin Joseph Williams (Rinada); Lee A. Smith III, Brian Anthony Smith (Chiquita), and one daughter, Jessica Alicia Williams; nine grandchildren, Bria, Brianna, Jackson, Jordan, Kevin II, Kobe, Shaniece, Toi and Toni; one brother, Lorenzo Williams; one sister Bertha Tucker; and a host of extended family and friends.
