Obituary for John Weaver II

John Arnold Weaver II was born to the late John Arnold Weaver and the late Hallie Chapel Weaver in McLennan County. He attended grade school at South Waco Elementary and graduated high school at Moore High School. In his young adult years John was an active member of the NAACP, a Boy Scout Leader, active in the bowling league, and member of Kennedy Kings Elks Lodge. He enjoyed horseback riding. John was an avid fisherman and gardener. His passion was taking care of his pigs and hogs. Mr. Weaver was a member of the Mt. Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church. He served as chairman of Deacons and Sunday School Superintendent for a number of years. John and his late wife, Gladys were the organizers of the Mt. Pleasant Junior Choir which later became the Mt. Pleasant Gospel chorus. This choir traveled extensively singing God's praises. Bro. Weaver was an active panel discussion speaker in the area churches. He was also an active participant in the Tri-Churches Brotherhood Pre-Easter Services. John was one of the original organizers of the Downsville Volunteer Fire Department where he srved as President. Mr. Weaver served as Precinct 90 voting chairman for McLennan County. John was employed by Mrs. Bairds Bakery for over 35 years. He was the first African American salesman for Mrs. Bairds in Central Texas. John A. Weaver II united in marriage with Gladys Isora Willis on June 15, 1952. This union was blessed with four wonderful children. John was preceded in death by his loving wife, Gladys, three brothers, and ten sisters. He leaves to cherish his memory, his children: Deborah (Douglas) Thompson, John A. (Annette) Weaver II both of Downsville, TX, Valarie (Sean) Young of Las Vegas, NV, and Kyley (Sharri) Weaver of Mesquite, TX. Grandchildren, Kenny Wiley, Korey (Ceclia) Keys, Jared Weaver, Taron Weaver, David Kentwan Danforth, Haley Weaver, Kamdon Weaver, Kaylyn Young, Kyah Weaver, Trinity Young and Konner Weaver; great-grandchildren, Gennah Wiley, Shanti Ewing, Kenzi Wiley, and Kamani Keys. Sisters: Marion Jefferson, Thedius Thompson (Dan G.), Barbara McDavid, Patsy Davis (Oliver). Brother: Edwin Earl Weaver (Itoko); sister-in-law, Rosetta (E.L.) Easley, and Betty Willis. A devoted family friend Elsie Hicks and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
