Obituary for Jesse Knight Jr.

Funeral:     Private graveside services, Monday, February 15, 2010   Jesse Knight, Jr. was born September 6, 1937 in Clarksdale, Misissippi to Lee Ethel and Jesse Knight, Sr.  Jesse was second of four children, which are, Lee Ethel Mae Jones of Chicago, IL, Dorothy May Johnson of East St. Louis, IL, who preceded Jesse in going home and Willie Mae Lowrey of St. Louis, MO. Jesse had a passion for music at a very young age. At approximately five years old, he watched his uncle, the legendary Ike Turner, play the piano at his home. Jesse then started playing the piano by ear, entertaining everyone present. Ike noticed his nephew had a natural ear for music and started teaching him guitar. At the age of sixteen, Jesse started playing bass and rhythm guitar with his uncle and the Kings of Rhythm.  He played with them for approximately 10 years.  As the Lord would have it, Ike preceded Jesse in going home. Jesse leaves to cherish in his loving memory, his sister, Willie Mae (Dollbaby);  his son, Kenneth and a host of family and special friends.  He had a strong faith in our Lord Jesus Christ and was very loving and kind to all that knew him.  He will be greatly missed in body, but his spirit will remain with us all. As Jesse would have said, " Always remember, this was meant to be.  Now I must travel alone, but I will be waiting to greet you when it's your time to come home.  I love you..." Psalms 23:6 - "Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life; and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever."
