Obituary for Flossie Collins

Flossie Mae Collins was born to the union of Rev. Willie Collins and Ida Bea Collins (whom preceded her in death) on July 3, 1931 in Pine Bluff, Arkansas. Flossie was educated through the public school system in Pine Bluff and being the oldest of 10 children, Flossie was a nurturer from the very beginning. At a young and tender age, Flossie professed her faith in Christ and accepted Him as her Lord and Savior without hesitation. Later, she married Leroy Miller, Sr. and from this union, sons and daughters were born. In 1955, Flossie moved to Saint Louis, Missouri where she continued to build upon her legacy by being a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, friend, aunt and cousin. When she moved to Saint Louis, she attended Rising Sun Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of her father, Rev. Willie Collins. Not long after, Flossie met Mr. Leroy Canon who had become an important part of her life and their companionship continued until her death. Flossie worked many different jobs which allowed her to meet many people and gain a few lifetime friends. She worked for Boatman’s Bank, Ms. Elaine’s and Saint Louis Public Schools, but still found her way back to what she loved the most and that was taking care of others. She eventually opened up her own child daycare where she was able to nurture and provide as only she could. Flossie had a quick wit about her. She loved to cook and to tell stories about the “old times” and the fulfillment she felt from raising and taking care of children. Her presence was welcomed everywhere she would go. In her later years, Flossie joined Hopewell M.B. Church, under the leadership of Rev. Dr. Donald Ray McNeal where she attended faithfully until her health declined. Job well done good and faithful servant - On April 22, 2018, Flossie went to be with the Lord. Preceding her in death are her mother and father, bothers, Arthur C. Dade and Willie Edward Dade, and sons, Leroy Miller Jr., David Miller and Louis Johnson. She leaves to cherish her wonderful memories and to carry on her legacy: her children ~ Harvey Miller, Velma Jarrett, Alphonso Miller (Cynthia), Robert Collins, James Collins (Sandra), Monica Collins and Miranda Troupe; brothers ~ James Dade, Charles Dade and Jimmy Dade. Flossie has 20 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, 9 great-great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, play-sisters, adopted kids and friends.
