Obituary for Cleo Grant

Cleo Grant was born July 22, 1937 to the union of Clyde and Gladys Lott in Quitman, Mississippi. She was the third sibling of five children: Benny C., Calvin, Arthur and Mable. She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Clyde and Gladys, by her brothers, Benny C., Calvin and Arthur and her daughter, Janette. Cleo and Joseph Grant were joined together in holy matrimony on November 10, 1958. To this union were born nine children, Toni, Jessica (Ronald), Teremus (Sandra), Kevin (Lisa), Jeanette, Surkarno, Josetta, Jamel and David. In 1964, Sister Cleo joined the Nation of Islam and professed her faith as a Muslim. She devoted her life to her entire family and the Muslim faith. Here, dedication and faithfulness to her Muslim community was astounding. She volunteered many years organizing countless fundraisers for the Masjid and the Clara Muhammad Muslim School. She was the original baker in the first, Cleo organized the MGT (Muslim Girls in Training) drill team and made MGT uniforms for the Clara Muhammad School. Cleo loved having her fish fry every Friday after Jumah (Friday prayer). Cleo is survived by: twenty-six grandchildren ~ Najlah, Akmal, Heather, Teremus, Jr., Natara, Keisha, Brandy, Gregory, Lateefa, Jerrod, Stephen, Hakeem, Jasmine, India, David, Tiarra, Jamal, Taj, Atiya, Mariah, Kaleab, Jordon, Davion, Elexa, Adam and Davion; twenty-five beautiful great grandchildren; two brothers-in-law (one preceding her in death); six sisters-in-law (two preceding her in death); and a host of other relatives and friends
