Obituary for Carlester Davis

Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father's house are many mansions: If it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also. John 14:1-3 Carlester Davis was the eldest of five born in St. Louis, MO to Nathaniel Davis and Geneva Cotton Davis on May 10, 1948 and was affectionately known to everyone as Carl. He was baptized at an early age at Berean Seventh Day Adventist Church. Carl was educated at Scullin Elementary School, Berean Seventh Day Adventist School and O’Fallon Technical High School. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1967 at the age of 17 and served until 1970. Shortly thereafter, Carl met and married Mary Jean Walls, the love of his life. To this union, four children were born. Carl was a fun-loving person who lit up every room he entered and delighted everyone he encountered. He had a unique gift for words which was shown in the short stories and poems that he told and wrote. He was known as a sharp dresser and loved to dance, but most of all, he loved being around his family and friends. Carl’s employment history includes General Cable Inc., Aberici Construction Co, and Anheuser Busch. Carl was also a professional painter by trade. He was known for his textured wall designs and for perfecting the ceiling “teardrop” design. He joyfully worked in this trade until his health declined. After a sudden and brief illness, Carl was called home to rest. He was preceded in death by his father, Nathaniel Davis, and his granddaughter, Brittney Moore. Carl leaves to cherish his memory: his loving mother Geneva Davis, devoted children, Tammy Patterson (John), Carla Davis, Jennifer Davis, stationed in Guam and DeAndre Davis; siblings Joyce Davis, Daryl Davis (Zelma), Gina Davis-Lloyd (Michael) of Plainfield, IL, Joel Davis, God-brothers, Lorenzo Macon (Kim) of Festus, Mo. and George Smith of Madison, IL; 7 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends including Charlene Lucas, Michael Potter and Carla Martin
