Obituary for Bernice Edwards

Donzella Edwards was born on August 31, 1928 to Luttie Alonzo and Emma Mable Edwards in Maryland Heights, MO. She was preceded in death by both parents and her siblings, Alberta, Herbert, Ralph, Marshall, Abie, Daniel, Roy, Richard, Robert and Isaac. Bernice went to Carver School in Maryland Heights, Missouri but dropped out due to an extended illness. She turned her life to God at an early age and she was baptized at Musick Baptist Church. Since she could no longer attend school, she cooked, cleaned, washed clothes, ironed and drew water from the well, for the rest of the family. Most of her brothers called her Sally Walker, Sis or Bern. She loved her brothers with all her heart. When they departed—she felt a great sense of loss. One day, she asked me, “What am I going to do now? I have no one left to tell me what to do.” I told her that she had the Lord, he would always be there. For you see, she loved being around her brothers. She loved cooking for them and making cassette tapes for them to listen to. She lived her entire life with her parents until they died. She was united in Holy Matrimony to Clarence Neyland. This union produced a daughter (Betty McFadden). Some years later, she was again united in Holy Matrimony to Walter M. Coleman. This union produced two (2) children—Walter Coleman, who’s deceased and Sheila Jones. Her favorite songs are Walk in the light and Precious Lord. On Monday evening, December 8, 2014 at St. Sophia Nursing Home, God called her home. Bernice leaves to cherish her memories two (2) daughters, Betty (Virgil), Sheila (Clyde), two sisters-in-law, Peggy Edwards and Lennia Edwards; three grandchildren—Jamie, Samantha and Whitney; and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, great-great nieces and nephews and a host of cousins and friends. Her current pastor is Reverend Keith Pendilton of Faith Baptist Church of Berkeley, Missouri.
