Obituary for Arlandus "Landie" Mayo

Arlandus Jamell Mayo was born December 3, 1975 to Arnold Byrant, who preceded him in death, and Georgia “Joyce” Ann Mayo. A brother, Antonio Mayo, his grandfather, Laddie Williams and his grandmother, Ardey Jean Bryant, all preceded him in death as well. Arlandus was the fourth child out of twelve children. Arlandus received his education from the St. Louis Public School System; he would later earn his G.E.D. Arlandus started his journey with Christ at an early age under the leadership of Pastor Francis Simpson at Shining Star Holiness Temple. He was raised in Church with his mother and siblings so life’s path would be made good for him. Always looking for the next big adventure, Arlandus, through the years, held on to his faith and would become a solider of God, accepting Christ as his Lord and Savior. He later attended Rock of Ages Baptist Church under the leadership of Oliver B. Henderson. Arlandus started mentoring the youth to prevent them form entering into the street life. Arlandus loved God and often drew people to him, wanting to know more about him. Arlandus was no stranger to hard work and made the best of situations. Arlandus was a loving, loyal, caring father, brother and son. He would give you his everything because his loyalty was his love. The way Arlandus expressed his love was indescribable. Many would never understand. Arlandus had a smile that warmed your heart and a great personality. He was the life of the party – you knew he was there, whether he got on your last nerve or not. You knew he just wanted to love on you. Everywhere Arlandus stepped his foot, he left a great impact that you always remembered. Arlandus always stayed true to himself, his family, his friends, and even strangers. He was so full of energy, love, laughter and always offered a great shoulder to cry on. Arlandus would often say the craziest things that would blow you away. He was a leader, a pursuer, a survivor in any situation – he kept you on your toes. In spite of his flaws, he kept fighting like the lion he was. His heart was always in the right place. He was crazy about his family, always saying how much he loved you and that he “gotchu”. He was very protective and territorial of the people he loved. People respected Arlandus and often looked up to him as a role model. He often said to his family some of the most heartfelt things to brighten up their day, for instance: “If any man can, the Lan-man can…”, “If you get on the horse, you better ride it.”, “You’re full of buffoonery!”, “Keep your head up and ten toes down.”, “Bro-bro, look at me…I really love you.”, “When you need me, call me…I’m on my way.”, “Teach ‘em.” and “My favorite boy.” These words Arlandus left are engraved in our hearts – they will live on forever. Arlandus shared himself with so many and loved so hard and not always getting back in return. But he never stopped giving and showing his loyalty and love. The legend he was…Arlandus was a humble servant. To know him was to love him and to know about his kind of love had an indefinite impression on you. Arlandus Jamell Mayo…this is who he was. Arlandus was getting restless and put down his sword. God called him to rest on Sunday, April 29, 2016.
