Obituary for Albert Lee

Mr. Albert Walton Lee was born on May 11, 1942 in Kansas City, Missouri to the union of Sampson and Bessie Lee. Both parents have preceded him in death. He was one of 10 chidren in which Clarence, Ronald, Donald, Lercy and John. Coming from a God-fearing family, Al accepted the Almighty God at an early age. The family moved to St. Louis, Missouri in 1952 from Kansas City. He furthered his education in the St. Louis Public Schools. Once graduating high school, Al decided to serve his country and enlisted in the United States Army. He served for 8 years, then served in the Marine reserve for 2 years, in the position of sergeant. In 1960, Al met his soulmate for life in the person of Mattie Grays by way of three mutual friends. He married Mattie on January 21, 1962 and their union remained childless. However he was her child and she was his child. So in other words, they took good care of each other. Al loved to travel and he and Mattie visited many destinations including Arizona, Germany, Hawaii and Jamaica. Al joined North Galilee Baptist Church, where he remained a member for many years. He worked for General Motors for 21 years. He later opened up La Mat Automotive Car Repair Shop. When he was not working or travelling, Al loved gathering with family and friends. As his health began to decline, his mother-in-law would volunteer to take him to his doctor’s appointments, because that was the type of love they had for each other. He will be sorely missed. On July 23, 2015 at 10:20pm, Albert Lee Walton heard his Master’s voice, saying, “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” Al leaves to cherish his memory, his devoted and loving wife of 53 years, Mattie; siblings, Bobbie, Shirley, Dorothy, Christine (Donald) and Sammy; his sister-in-law, Roberta; his mother-in-law, Samella Grays; godson, Ronnie Brooks, Jr.; special niece, Lucretia Jackson; and a host of nephews and nieces, other relatives and friends.
