Verlena J. Miller was born February 12, 1935 In St. Louis, Missouri. She was the only child born to Lillian Dean. Verlena or “Lil Ma”, as she was affectionately called, loved to read, cook, collect plants and listen to music. Verlena was a strong believer in Christ and made Pavilion of Praise her church home. Verlena graduated from Vashon High School in 1953 and was a proud Wolverine. She worked at Charles Todd Uniform as a seamstress. Verlena was an extremely loving and caring person. She gave the best advice and told the funniest stories. She had a great sense of humor and loved making people laugh and feel good. She was a joy to be around and even at 80 years old, was the life of the party. Verlena always emphasized the importance of family, and loved having her family over on Sundays when she would cook the most delicious meals and desserts. She really enjoyed getting together for holidays and family functions. She was very interested in getting to know people and would always take time to have a conversation with those who crossed her path. Verlena was very strong and resilient and was always in great spirits. She kept a positive outlook on life even through tough times and continues to be an inspiration to many people. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, confidante and friend. Verlena was called home on Monday, November 2, 2015. She is survived by her four children: James, Phyllis, Melissa, and Khem. She also leaves to cherish her memory 12 grandchildren: Ashley, Khem Jr., Courtney, Kevin, Amber, Jessica, Devin, Sydney, David, Nailah, Destin and Kimberly. She will be missed by countless family members and friends. Verlena was preceded in death by her oldest daughter, Cheryl A. Bond “Bonnie” and her husband James Miller Jr.
