As a young child she lived in Boston, Massachusetts; Gary, Indiana; Cleveland, Ohio; and Starkville, Mississippi. She moved to St. Louis, Missouri where she met Eli Brown. Born to this union were two sons, Lavel Brown and Charles Brown. She confessed her faith in Christ at an early age. Sarah became a member of Mount Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church and attended until her health failed. After retiring from Ferrier Harris Nursing Home in 1995, she continued to pursue her passion for cooking. Family gatherings were the perfect opportunity for her to showcase her knack for creating the perfect soul food spread. Her family and friends waited with great anticipation for her traditional holiday meals. No one ever left hungry or empty handed. With hugs and a smile, she would pack and send leftovers home with her loved ones. On September 3, 2011 Sarah was called home to Christ. She was preceded in death by her son Charles Earl Brown, Sr., her brothers Lee Earnest, Charles and Fred, Jr., as well as both her parents.
