Lucille Delores Sims

Lucille Delores Sims, age 84, of Frisco,Texas, peacefully passed away on July 1, 2026, surrounded by love.

Born on October 8, 1941, in Portsmouth,Virginia, she was the cherished daughter of the late William and Willie (Hines) Hill. Lucille was a woman of extraordinary energy and dedication, simultaneously balancing two careers in service to her faith and community. She gave 30 wonderful years of service as an Administrative Assistant for the St. Louis Archdiocese Education Office, while also dedicating over 15 years as the warm, welcoming face and voice of St. Francis Xavier College Church as their receptionist. Across more than four decades of hard work, she was widely known for her laughter, kindness, and an unmatched ability to make anyone she encountered feel like family.

She married her beloved husband, Othia Lee Sims (affectionately known as Monk), on September 7, 1959. Together, they shared almost 50 beautiful years of marriage, building a life deeply centered around family, faith, and community.

Lucille was a woman of many passions. She loved the Lord, enjoyed being a true connoisseur of shopping, and held a deep, unwavering commitment to her roots. Because those familial connections were so vital to her, she traveled back to her home state of Virginia at least twice a year, including the annual family reunions. Reflecting the immense love her family held for her across the country, she was fondly known as “Aunt Dee Dee” on the East Coast and affectionately called “Aunt Sam” by her family in the Midwest. Her greatest joy, however, was her family. Above all, Lucille’s greatest joy was her family. She celebrated every milestone, big or small, with boundless enthusiasm and a heart that never stopped giving.

Her surviving children will carry on her legacy of love: Kevin “Mimi” Sims and his spouse, Malinda (Barsh) Sims; Peter-John Sims and his spouse, James Vinkenberg; and Sirita (Sims) Jacox and her spouse, Patrick Jacox. She is also survived by her cherished grandchildren, Melanie (Sims) Luster and her spouse Jamall Luster, Kevin Sims II and his spouse DeVona (Hogan) Sims, Justin Jacox, Julian Jacox; her precious great-granddaughter, Talor Williams; her loving sister, Clarestine (Hill) Elliott; and her favorite brother-in-law, William Watkins, Sr., and a host of nieces, nephews, and good friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William Hill and Willie (Hines) Hill; her husband, Othia; her brother, Melvin Hill and his late wife Ruby (Eure) Hill; and her sisters, Deborah (Hill) Gordon, Gloria Jean (Hill) Watkins, and her late brother-in-law Robert Elliott (spouse to Clarestine).

Because this is a true Celebration of Life for a woman who was so incredibly vibrant, the family thanks you for honoring her with shining bright by wearing your favorite color or a splash of hers (red, of course) as we celebrate the beautiful light she brought into all of our lives.
