Joel Davis

Joel Glenn Davis was born on March 13, 1962, in St. Louis, Missouri, to the union of Nathaniel and Geneva Davis, who preceded him in death. Also born to that union were Carlester and Gina, who preceded him in death, Joyce, Daryl and adopted brother Lorenzo.
Joel professed Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age and became a faithful member of Berean Seventh Day Adventist Church in St. Louis, Missouri. He and his family later became members of New Horizon Seventh Day Christian Church.
Joel attended Scullin Elementary School, Northwest High School and St. Louis Community College at Forest Park in St. Louis, Missouri. He was an industrious young man, anxious to get out into the working world. While in high school he began working for Barnes-Jewish Hospital. Joel’s caring nature made him a perfect fit for his position as a Psychiatric Technician. Joel loved his job and his co-workers as well. He developed a huge circle of friends at Barnes-Jewish Hospital who became his second family. Joel’s career with the hospital reached forty years just before his passing. Joel also worked part-time at Hawthorne Children’s Psychiatric Hospital.
In July of 1990 Joel married Hazel Ashford. Although they later parted, they remained friends.
Joel loved his family dearly and embraced every gathering like it would be the last. He was a compassionate care-giver, living life in service to others. Joel was the first to provide a shoulder, deliver a meal, hold your hand, offer a ride or anything else to lift your spirits. The Davis siblings were a tightly knit group, but Joel was especially protective of his big sister Joyce. Their bond was unbreakable from the beginning.
Joel, although shy as a youth, became a lover of people. He was genuine and willing to befriend anyone. He kept in touch with old friends and classmates and never missed an opportunity to gather. He loved taking photos of family and friends and had an enormous collection which he enjoyed sharing. Joel also enjoyed traveling and visiting family. He loved spur of the moment road trips. Dining out and trying new restaurants were great passions of Joel’s which he enjoyed regularly.
Joel began his fight with a devastating illness in April of 2018. He was immediately surrounded with love and support by all whose lives he touched on his life’s journey. Joel faced his illness with courage and grace knowing how much he was loved. He departed this life on August 29, 2019, with Daryl, Joyce and several other loved ones by his side.
Joel leaves to cherish his memory, a devoted sister and brothers, Joyce Davis, Daryl (Zelma) Davis, Lorenzo (Kim) Macon, all of St. Louis, Missouri, nieces, Rachel Davis, Erin (Ian) Wilson, of Aurora, Illinois, lifelong friends, Lorenzo (Arnetta) Chancelor, Cliff (Thelma) Gordon, godchildren, Alexis Chancelor, Lorenzo Chancelor, Jr., good friend, Angela Taylor and a host of loving friends and relatives.
