Frank Lumpkins, Jr. was born January 10, 1934 in Madison County, Mississippi. Frank was the 8th of 12 children born to Frank and Corean Lumpkins, Sr. Frank’s parents and six siblings preceded him in death. Frank was educated in the Mississippi School District of Madison County. Frank accepted Christ as his Savior in his early years at the St. Matthews Missionary Baptist Church in Pickens, Mississippi. Frank soon realized his calling was to become a part of the music ministry and began singing and playing in local gospel groups. Frank married his soul mate and sweetheart Gloria (Nichols), to this union four children were born. Frank wanted a better life for him and his family and moved them to “The Gateway to the West”, St. Louis, Mo in 1963. Frank found employment at Siegel Roberts Plating Company and dutifully worked until he retired in 1996. Frank and his family united with Hills Chapel Missionary Baptist Church. Frank’s love for Christ and music led him to join the spiritual voices of the Southland Singers who performed with renowned groups such as The Canton Spirituals and The Mighty Clouds of Joy. Frank loved his family, enjoyed riding his motorcycle and communicating on his CB radio. In the CB Radio atmosphere, Frank’s handle was “The Green X”. When you hear “Breaker! Breaker! 1-9” the Green X was on the air” you knew the calm voice of Frank was coming to you with some strong and encouraging words”. He loved to joke and have fun with his family especially children; watch Monday night wrestling and was the family “handy man”, there was not a job too big or too small for Frank to handle. Frank was called home Sunday, September 19, 2010. He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife, Gloria Lumpkins; his children; Willie (Bertha) White of Goodman, Miss, Joyce (Dennis) Tucker, Cassandra Lumpkins, Jimmie (Lisa) Lumpkins all of St. Louis Mo, Gertie (Allen) Lewis of Murrieta, CA, sisters; Victoria Bacon, Ellen Williams, Corean Jones, Ada Manning, brother; Jerry Lumpkins, 20 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and dear friends.
