Edna Ruth Renfroe was born on January 22, 1946. To the union of Ray Brent and Ruth Lee Smith Brent. She was a beloved wife, mother grandmother, sister and friend who touched the lives of many with her kindness and generosity.
Edna was preceded in death by her mother Ruth Brent, father Ray Brent, daughter Andrea Renfroe, son Frank A. Renfroe Jr., brothers Donny (Donna) and Darry (Darresha) Maxwell, father-in-law William Renfroe (Ethel), mother-in-law Cleophia Arbuckle, brother-in-law William Renfroe Jr., nephew Tyree Lockett, step-gran-daughter LaCresha (Cre) Renfroe, and son-in-law Daniel F. Perry.
Edna graduated from Soldan High School on June 12, 1964. She worked at Mascara’s Italian Restaurant as a second chef to my God father Herman Mitchell for over 20 years. General Motors for 32 years, demonstrating dedication and hard work throughout her career.
Edna confessed her faith at an early age while attending Northern Baptist Church. She was a long-standing member and served in many capacities, including as a Junior Usher, and Secretary. Her Service to God and the church continued from the age of eight until she could no longer walk, well into her seventies.
Edna met the love of her life, Frank Renfroe, at Blue City. They were joined in marriage on August 31, and they were married for 60 years. Edna had two children, Jackie and Andrea, whom she loved dearly, along with her three stepchildren. She had seven brothers and sisters and was known for her heart of gold, always willing to do anything for her family and friends. She has many grandchildren that she loved so much and was very proud of their growth and accomplishments. She liked bowling, cooking, reading, traveling, exploring new restaurants, and shopping. During the holidays, if you came home with friends, everyone at the party left her house with a gift.
Edna was an Eastern Star for over 30 years, following in the footsteps of her Aunt Mary Edna Gaines, who served for over 40 years and Mary’s father, Rosco, also served as a Mason for over 40 years. She was truly an example of true sisterhood and loved her Prince Hall Masonic Family. She was quite committed and dedicated to many houses, she excelled within the order of Eastern Star becoming a past Worthy Matron, a Past Royal Commandress in the Order of Cyrene and a Past Illustriious Commandress of the Medinah Court #15 Daughters. She loved putting on her clown outfit- going to nursing homes, working with the young girls in safe homes, making food boxes for the unfortunate during Thanksgivings and Christmas. She looked forward to the weeklong Grand Session with the organization.
Edna leaves to cherish her husband Frank, daughter Jacki Renfroe Perry, brothers and sisters Carolyn Ramer, Waltie, Ivan and Judith Maxwell, sister-in-law Carmen Charlston, Donita Maxwell and Mary Maxwell. She is also survived by her grandchildren Tamika, Danielle, Michael, JocQuinn (Azia), DanMesha (Jerry), JaQuez, JaQuan, and LaDonna, and great-grandchildren Chyna, Jayvon, Davon, Khayli, Legacy, JocQuinn Jr., Autumn, Malani, and Audrea. Additionally, she leaves behind her stepchildren Boris, Robin, Ann, and April, a special group of cousins Willie Brent, Willie Logan, Lucille, Deloris, Blache and Tommy, and a host of nieces and nephews.
