Obituary for Theodore Yandell, "Ted" CFSP Jr.

Theodore Taylor Yandell, Jr., aka, “Teddy” , of Webster Groves, Missouri, transitioned to eternal rest on November 7, 2017. Born July 26, 1948, to eodore T. Yandell, Sr. and Mildred (Whitlock) Yandell, Teddy was the fourth of six children. He was preceded in death by his mother, Mildred Yandell and father, eodore, sister, Ida Yandell, brothers, Wendell Yandell, William Yandell, and Carl Yandell. On September 2, 1999, Teddy united in marriage to Carolyn Ann Deanes-Edwards. With this union, he became the father of Craige and Christopher Edwards. Teddy loved them both as his own. Educated in the Webster Groves School District, Teddy attended Meramec Community College prior to being drafted into the United States Army. His service included a tour of duty in Vietnam, Army 1st BN (M) 61st Infantry, with a nal rank of Sergeant. Upon returning from military service, he decided to follow in his father’s footsteps and enrolled in Forest Park Community College’s Mortuary Science Program. In 1976, he received his Bachelor of Arts Degree from Saint Louis University. After graduation, Teddy commenced to be groomed by his father in the Mortuary Science business and became the succeeding funeral director of Yandell Mortuary. He served numerous years in his position, establishing a second-generation mortuary family legacy. He was an active member of the St. Louis Undertakers Association, the Missouri Licensed Embalmers Association, the St. Louis Gateway Funeral Directors and Embalmers Association, Missouri State Funeral Directors and Embalmers Association, the National Funeral Directors  and Mortician Association, (NFD&MA) and Epsilon Nu Delta Mortuary Fraternity, Inc. As an active member of these organizations, he served twice as president of the St. Louis Gateway Funeral Directors and Embalmers Association, and served several times in the capacity of president of the Missouri State Funeral Directors. He was presently serving as a member on the Education Commissioners Board of Directors of the National Funeral Directors and Mortician Association (NFD&MA). Teddy was also a member of the North Webster Neighborhood Coalition, and was the vessel to preserve his childhood community. As a faithful and lifelong member of Unity United Methodist Church, Teddy served in several areas of ministry which entailed: Men’s group and Church Treasurer. He loved his sports and being active. is love for sports was demonstrated in attending the Super Bowl annually, playing racket ball, cycling, and he was an avid runner. Most of all, he enjoyed the recreational activities offered at the Lodge of Des Peres. Theodore’s  legacy is survived by his wife, Mrs. Carolyn Yandell; sister, Gwendolyn (Frank) Bennett; his sons, Craige (Veronica) Edwards and Christopher (Nicole) Edwards; sister, Gwendolyn (Frank) Bennett. Ted (PawPaw) leaves behind seven grandchildren; Naomi, Johnathan, Isaiah (Craige), Mark, Chosen, Collin, Mason (Chris); his beloved nieces and nephews that fondly called him Uncle Teddy: Kristopher Anderson, Michelle Anderson, Charisse Mahorn, Kenny Yandell, Steven Yandell, Brian Yandell, Kim Massey, Stephanie Hollandsworth, Warren Yandell, Marsha Reyes, Sherri Moore, Erika Heller, Frank Bennett, II. He also leaves cousins; god-daughters, Amber Smallwood and Lindsey Garcia; and a host of business associates and friends, including dear friends, Edward Mahan and  Walter Edward Smallwood.
