Obituary for Sidney Campbell

Sidney Thompson Campbell , known to his loved ones as Sidney T., was born to Mariah Cassandra (Thompson) and William Campbell on December 5, 1943, in Cairo, IL. The family moved to Saint Louis, MO during Sidney's early childhood years, along with his older sister, Nonie Mae. William Campbell passed away early in the siblings' lives, and Mariah raised the children solo; she never remarried. The siblings attended school at Mallanphy in Saint Louis, MO, and were active youth playing sports; Sidney developed a natural artistic talent in acrylic painting to mastery level. Sidney came to know the Lord in an intimate, personal way at a young age. As an early adult, Sidney worked in the field of construction/renovations along with close cousin and best friend Donald Brown. Sidney also became the proud father of on daughter, Drusilla Nelson, whom he adored and spoke of to anyone he met. Upon the marriage of his sister, Nonie Mae (Campbell) to Tommie Lee Smith, Sidney gained more than a brother-in-law, he had a new brother that which the relationship has remained strong and forever bonded. Sidney's conversations were always colorful as he shared stories, music, jokes or fun times with family in the city. O'Bear Ave. was a routine stop to see cousin/uncle/brother Sidney. Great laughter was always on the agenda. Unknown to many, Sidney married his love, Mary, in an intimate church service; illness shortened the union. While Mary was moved away with her children out of state, Mary passed away quietly surrounded by her close family. After years of progressive illness, Sidney transitioned from this life on October 1, 2017. Sidney is remembered by his loving daughter, Drusilla Nelson; grandson, Derrick Jenkins; life-brothers, Donald Brown and Tommie Smith; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. He was proceeded in death by his father, William Campbell; mother, Mariah "Cass" Campbell (Thompson); sister, Nonie Mae Smith (Campbell); and wife Mary.
