Obituary for Sheila Paulette McFadden

On August 1, 1956, a beautiful baby girl was born to Ora Mae McFadden and
Solomon K. Slater. Sheila was the eldest of four children. Her parents and one
brother, Eric McFadden preceded her in death.
Sheila received her education through the Saint Louis Public Schools. She
attended Dunbar Elementary, Vashon High School and graduated from
Beaumont High School.
Sheila confessed a hope in Christ and was baptized at an early age at New
Salem Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Brown.
In the latter 1970’s, she united with True Light Missionary Baptist Church
under the leadership of Reverend Dr. E. Stanley Howlett where she remained
a member until her passing.
During her early years in life, she was employed with Saint Louis City Hall for
10 years. Following City Hall, she began her journey with the United States
Postal Service where she retired after 37 years of service. She retired from the
Postal Service in February 2021.
On September 12, 1978, she was blessed with her pride and joy, a little girl.
Sheila loved her family, and her family loved her. She was the rock of her
family. She believed in education so much that she was a teacher in the
evenings and weekends. She taught her daughter, grand-daughter, and her
baby brother to read prior to kindergarten. She made sure her daughter,
grand-daughter and brothers received the highest education possible from
attending magnet schools to college. She was exceptionally proud of her
grand-daughter, Ashley, because she will be receiving her Master's Degree
this December at the age of 21.
Sheila was a loving, mild-mannered protector who was very resilient. She
had such a sweet disposition. To know her was to love her. She would lend a
helping hand to anyone at any time. Sheila was the greeting card giver, the
special day phone caller, and the caretaker. She was a mother figure to her
baby brother. To be a friend of Sheila’s was very special and every friend of
hers knew that very well.
On Sunday, October 30, 2022, while on her way to church the Lord decided
Sheila had toiled long enough in this old world and sent his Angel to bring
Sheila home. Oh, how her family and friends pained to see her go. She is
irreplaceable by all those who loved her and will be missed tremendously.
Sheila leaves to cherish her memory; 1 daughter LaTonya McFadden Rivers
(Willie III); 4 grand-children Ashley McFadden, Alexis Rivers, Willie Rivers IV
and Isaiah Rivers; 2 brothers Terry McFadden and Andre McFadden, 1
brother/cousin Rev. Kelvin Ellison (Tina); 1 sister/cousin Pat Houston
(Tyrone); 2 uncles Sylvester McFadden and Ivory Ellison (or Uncle Daddy as
she called him); 3 nephews, Anthony, Dorian and Aedan; 2 Nieces, Terrika
and Kennadi; 2 great-nephews; 3 great-nieces and a host of cousins, postal
worker friends, book club friends, and many other friends.
