Obituary for Robert Lee Adams

Robert Lee Adams
On June 5, 1923, there was a great sunrise on the birth of Robert Lee Adams by John Adams and Anna Fields, in Memphis, TN. (Both parents preceded him in death.) In 1939, at age 16, Robert served as a Cook in the U.S. Army, during the World War II era. After his honorary discharge and unforgettable experience, he moved to St. Louis, MO.
In 1949, Robert married the love of his life, Garnett Marie Downey, which preceded him in death. They were blessed with 65 years of Holy Matrimony! What a marital bliss!
Robert and Garnett moved to Wellston, MO, in 1964. They resided on Wellston Place and served the Wellston community with passion. Garnett for the School Board and educational endeavors and Robert with cooking barbecue and supplying donuts to every family in need. Robert worked at the Taystee Bread Company as a Baker, which supplied defaulted donuts that he would bring home in (2) shopping bags daily. (They called him “Shopping Bag Bob.”) He was also the cook for the church during their fundraisers. He and Herb would grill meat at all of the Barbeques and fry fish at all of the Fish Frys. It was a sellout every time!
Robert started his Christian journey at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, under the administration of Pastor Aaron Henderson, in Wellston, MO. His remaining days of worship were spent at Mt. Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church, under the leadership of Pastor Curtis Shelton Sr., in St. Louis, MO. Robert Lee Adams was a true man of God! He served as a dedicated Deacon, for both churches, until a ripe old age. Robert continued his worship to the Lord from home, hosting his own Devotion every morning; listening to and singing gospel music daily; sending monthly tithes to the church; having Bible Study Wednesdays and joining in family prayer daily with his family every night. He truly loved the Lord!
On Wednesday, January 6, 2021, the sun set on Robert Lee Adams. The last living soul of his immediate family was called home to be with the Lord. (Well done, faithful servant! Well done!) Robert had 6 siblings- Adell Adams (Pearle), Willie Frank Adams (Adene), David Adams (Letha), Jesse Ray Adams (Fannie), Ruby Lee Hayes (Eddie), and Bessie Mae Adams; a special niece - Bobbie Ruth Newson; 2 grandchildren- David Johnson and Breiana Ray; and 1 great grandchild Aiden Ray. All whom preceded him in death.
Robert leaves to cherish his memory: 2 sons - Kent S. Adams (Dorlita) and Gerard W. Adams (Sharon); 1 daughter - Revitra M. Greco (James); 6 grandchildren - Gevon, Gerron, Genitra, Gemaria, James, and Robert; 4 great grandchildren; and a host of many friends and relatives.
