Obituary for Mattie Williams

Beloved Mother, Sister, Aunt, Grandmother and Surrogate Mother to others, Mattie Williams born in Armorial, Arkansas on January 25, 1925, was the fifth of twelve siblings born to Ed and Mozella Collier. At a very early age Christianity was bestowed upon her soul through her home life and church. Anyone that knew her could talk about anything in confidence knowing it wouldn't leave the room. She was truly a virtuous woman with a forgiving heart and possessed an ora that would cause a person to cling and hold on to her everlasting good spirit. After moving to St. Louis, out of her great love for God, Greater Bethlehem Baptist Church became her first and only church home. She united in Holy Matrimony to Ear “Grey Eye” Williams, who preceded her in death. To that union seven sons and three daughters were born. For over forty years she worked hard at Coral Court Motel on famous Route 66 to provide support and care for her family. Over her lifetime, four sons, Alvin Collier, Eric Williams, Ronald Williams, Wayne Williams, ten siblings and one daughter-in-law, Karen Williams had preceded her in death. On Saturday, January 23, 2016, two days before her 91st birthday, angels planned her party in heaven and celebrated her home coming. She leaves to cherish her precious memories: three daughters ~ Gwendolyn Mattie Taylor, Bridgie Williams and Debbie Johnson; three sons ~ Earl Collier, Melvin Williams and Burdett Williams; two twin sisters ~ Irene Watson and Eurene Bratton; fifteen grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; one son-in-law ~ Michael Johnson; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, surrogate children and friends.
