Obituary for Luella Nelson

Luella C. Nelson was born January 5, 1926 to Herbert and Annie Nelson on the family farm in Moselle, Missouri. She was the third of twelve children. Her parents, brothers Kenneth Nelson, Herbert Nelson, Carl Nelson, Joseph Nelson, Luther Nelson and sisters Velma Cole, Oralee Walls and Franseenyia Jackson all preceded her in death. Luella accepted Christ as her personal savior at an early age. She was baptized at First Baptist Church of Moselle and joined First Baptist Church of Webster Groves in the 1940s. She moved to St. Louis and joined New Northside and Clayton Baptist Churches. Luella moved to Chicago to live with one of her sisters and while there, she held clerk positions at retail stores. After returning to Missouri, she attended Washington Technical Trade School, receiving her nursing certification with working as dietician at Barnes Jewish Hospital. Once graduated, she then worked as a Certified Nurse’s Assistant at the hospital. She then worked at Smith Overall Cleaning where she retired at the age of 62. Luella had three children: Joy Nickerson, Kevin Nelson and Michael Burnett. Luella married Robert Burnett and to this union one son was born, Michael Burnett. Luella then returned to Webster Groves and rejoined First Baptist Church of Webster Groves. She worked with the Usher Board/ Health Unit and was an active member of the Sewing Circle (meetings held from house to house, eventually incorporating in the Church and attended Sunday School regularly.) Luella departed this life March 13, 2018 and she leaves to cherish her memory: one daughter ~ Joy Nickerson; two sons ~ Kevin Presley Nelson (Deborah Chiodini) and Michael Ivan Burnett (Tara Burnett); one sister ~ Mable V. Moore; two brothers ~ Clifton Nelson (Martha Nelson) and Jack Nelson (Dorothy Nelson); grandsons ~ Jefra Nickerson, Kevron Nelson, Maurice Drayton; Paris Drayton and DeVille Drayton; granddaughters ~ Jazzmene Nelson, Morgen Burnett, Mia Burnett, Natasha Rogers and Dominique Turner; great grandchildren ~ Ava Drayton, Paris Drayton, Jr., Reginald Penny, III, Rashad West, Kylee Turner, Kaiden Willis and Cam Bailey; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives family and friends.
