Obituary for Johnnie "Oochie" Gibson

Johnnie Gibson, III was born on August 20, 1965 to Johnnie Gibson, Jr. and Mary Lee Buckner in Indianola, Mississippi.  His father, Johnnie Gibson, Jr.; mother, Mary Lee Buckner Gibson; sister, Sharon Gibson and brother, Tony Gibson preceded him in death.  Johnnie was educated through the Indianola Public School System.  He graduated from Gentry High School in 1983.  He went to Cohoma Junior College in Clarksdale, Mississippi for a semester and later transferred to Southeast Missouri State University, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in General Studies in 1990.  Johnnie was joined in holy matrimony to his soul mate Bonnye Russell of 31 years on May 17, 1986.  To this union three children were born; Leah Monique, Maurice Lamar and Brittney Dashawn.  Johnnie professed Christ as Lord and Savior at a young age under Pastor A. D. Brown at Union Grove Missionary Baptist Church.  He was a current member of City Hope Bible Church under Pastor Al Palmer. Johnnie was a hard-worker and always wanted more for his family.  In his earlier years, he worked several managerial jobs, while simultaneously working as a subcontractor for janitorial, construction and clean-up.  He eventually started his own janitorial business, Bon Jon Cleaning Service, which has been operating for 30 years. Johnnie was affectionately known as "Oochie" to his family and friends.  He loved fishing, barbecuing, fellowshipping with his family, friends and church family.  His greatest pleasure was ministering and witnessing to every person he met primarily his family.  Johnnie was a bold and outspoken man, who was confident and stood firm on his convictions from the Lord...even if it meant being misunderstood and standing alone. On Sunday, June 25, 2017 at 9:00am our loving husband, father, son and brother departed his earthly home on his way to church.  His memories will be cherished by his beautiful bride, Bonnye Gibson; one son, Maurice Gibson; two daughters, Brittney Gibson and Leah Gibson;  four grandchildren, Shayla, Jabari, Latrell and Brenton;  seven sisters, Cynthia Jennings (Roy), Rosemary Jennings (Eric), Mary Jean Brisco (Harvey), Monica Granberry (Deimon), Tyneshia Carter (Kevin), Tashila Hassel (Clarance), Jacqueline Brock;  three brothers, Johnnie Richardson, Robert Brock and Frederick Brock (Brenda);  a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
